Geostorm (2017)
Hello guys, back with me Charisma Mufadilah. Today I want to tell you about the movie with the tittle "Geostorm (2017)" starring by my favorite actor, Gerard Butler.
It all started with a special weather control satellite to regulate ecosystems and extreme weather changes called Dutch Boy. However, the satellite that was created to protect the Earth was disturbed and resulted in various natural disasters. Satellite designer Jake (Gerard Butler) and his younger brother Max (Jim Sturgess) try to repair the satellite before the Geostorm catastrophe destroys Earth, but to do so they must face the enemy under cover and kidnap the President of America in order to shut down the satellite system.
The film opens with a girl's narration explaining the origins of the Dutch Boy satellite, various natural disasters that arise due to extreme weather. She also said "This is what saved us all, and Dutch Boy was built by a team led by ..." then fell silent and said "my father".
Told not far in the future, Earth is hit by continuous natural disasters due to the effects of global warming. Hundreds of cities were destroyed by hurricanes, or drowned by floods caused by melting Arctic ice, thousands of lives were also lost due to the onslaught of heat waves.
Due to the unpredictable climate, the United Nations finally decided to carry out the construction project "Dutch Boy"—a giant space station that has the ability to control the climate on Earth. Led by scientist Jake Lawson (Gerard Butler), the project is a success and the Earth is finally stable again.
However, Jake is considered no longer worthy to lead Dutch Boy due to his attitude that often disobeys his superiors and is dishonorably fired by Max (Jim Sturgess); who is none other than Jake's own younger brother who works in the government.
Several years later, a series of unnatural natural disasters occurred and claimed many lives, allegedly caused by a satellite malfunction on Dutch Boy.
Max, who then investigates the source of the malfunction and smells a potential conspiracy in the government agency, decides to send Jake back to Dutch Boy, to uncover the secrets and mysteries that surround him. Before Earth was hit by a simulated massive storm caused by Dutch Boy known as "Geostorm".
In my opinion, it is an obligation for natural disaster-themed films to have stunning visuals, and Geostorm has several set pieces that may have never crossed the audience's head before.
Ranging from hundreds of tornadoes that hit cities in India, or a tremendous drop in temperature resulting in freezing of beach waves in the tropics, or a huge tsunami that hit Dubai. And what's even more terrifying, is the chase and shootout in a car in the style of the Fast & Furious films set in the middle of a thunderstorm! Yes, Geostorm is never shy about showing off its flair.
Another factor is the acting of the players who seem to really enjoy their roles in this film .Gerard Butler and the somewhat underrated handsome actor Jim Sturgess perform very well with very strong chemistry as brothers and sisters whose attitudes are very opposite. Honestly, seeing Sturgess acting here, I feel a bit sorry because with her talent, she deserves a role in a better film than Geostorm, and so does Butler.
The appearance of two senior actors, Ed Harris and Andy Garcia—who hasn't appeared on the big screen for a long time—can also be considered a plus. Garcia himself is very deep in his role as the authoritative president of the United States, but also has a human side that is quite humorous and badass. If only Garcia would return to the realm of gangster films as he did decades before.
Apart from the ridiculous story, the dialogue in this film is quite fun to listen to without confusing the audience with foreign terms, as well as a lot of light humor that can invite laughter. I gave it a rating of 8.7/10 because this film is pretty good and worth it to watch.
I think it's enough for today, see you later guys.
